In a move that combines financial support with a firm ultimatum, the United States has vowed $2 billion for UN emergency relief programmes. But, this funding was accompanied by a direct warning for the international body: it must "evolve or perish."
A Significant Pledge During Wider Budget Reductions
The funding announcement came against a backdrop of substantial cuts in American support of humanitarian operations. Additional reductions are also anticipated from other major contributors including Britain and Germany.
