Jon Ruben pleaded guilty to 17 criminal counts at the courthouse on the end of the week

A man who laced sweets with tranquilliser and provided them to youngsters at a summer camp in the area has confessed to sexual offenses against two children who were nine and 10.

The accused was detained after eight children and one adult became sick at the facility in the summer month.

The 76-year-old, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, pleaded guilty to a series of 17 offences when he was present at the judicial center on recently.

Yet, he disputed one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was against a young boy.

Ruben was held in detention prior to a further hearing on November 28th.

'Treat game'

Mary Prior KC, handling the case, outlined the criminal behavior to the court.

She said his those affected were disadvantaged youngsters who were attending a youth camp which he ran.

Ruben conducted a "candy game" with the minors, Mrs Prior explained, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were settling down and tell them to ingest treats "as quickly as they can".

She told the court the man had engaged in this activity with the children "repeatedly", and minors had previously fallen ill the next day.

She explained Ruben had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had worries in recently.

The legal representative added: "Recently" his stepchild had worries about what was going on, justifiably.

"They resolved" to examine in the individual's items."

The prosecutor stated items including infant oil, Vaseline and medical needles were discovered, and his family member contacted the law enforcement about his worries.

She said the man continued to engage in the "sweet game" with six children that evening - Saturday 26 July - and they were all sick the subsequent day.

"Authorities" had not responded by that time," she stated further.

The police watchdog, the investigative body, previously told that it was reviewing law enforcement's management of the incident.

Mrs Prior said the minors were having difficulty walking due to their sickness, so Ruben's stepson notified the law enforcement a second time.

She explained the man then conducted the "sweet game" in a space of five children.
